Every year, the USDA publishes the average land values for farm real estate. The statistics are broken down into types of land—pasture, cropland, irrigated/non-irrigated, land and buildings. The attached copy of the 2019 report includes all the statistics, including trends, some from 2015-2019 and others from 2005-2019. This map is a snapshot of farm real estate values in different states. The report includes more such maps.
Local and specific, not average information is always better. This is just a good place to begin understanding the big picture because comparabilities are important too.

The USDA statistics are published by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). All NASS reports are available online:

Both national and state-specific reports are available with a free e-mail subscription. Go to the NASS website to create an account and select the reports you would like to receive.
Cornell University’s Mann Library in Western New York State has a new website to archive USDA reports. It also has an email newsletter.
